Position Overview

The Kitchen Assistant supports the Preschool Chef in preparing and serving nutritious meals and snacks. This role helps maintain a clean, safe, and organized kitchen while ensuring food is prepared and served according to health and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with preparing and serving breakfast, lunch, and snacks daily

  • Wash, cut, and prepare fruits, vegetables, and other food items

  • Follow CACFP guidelines and all health and safety regulations

  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of kitchen surfaces, equipment, and dishes

  • Support proper food storage, labeling, and organization

  • Assist with meal portioning and delivery to classrooms

  • Follow allergy protocols and dietary restrictions carefully

  • Help with receiving and organizing food deliveries

  • Support the Chef with special events and school activities

Qualifications

  • Experience in a kitchen, childcare, or food service setting preferred but not required

  • Basic knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices

  • Ability to follow directions and work as part of a team

  • Strong attention to detail and organization skills

  • Ability to lift up to 40–50 lbs and stand for extended periods

  • Dependable, positive, and team-oriented

  • A genuine passion for working in an environment with young children

Preferred Backgrounds

  • School or daycare kitchen assistant

  • Food service or hospitality experience

  • Experience in cleaning and sanitation roles
