Position Overview
The Kitchen Assistant supports the Preschool Chef in preparing and serving nutritious meals and snacks. This role helps maintain a clean, safe, and organized kitchen while ensuring food is prepared and served according to health and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with preparing and serving breakfast, lunch, and snacks daily
- Wash, cut, and prepare fruits, vegetables, and other food items
- Follow CACFP guidelines and all health and safety regulations
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of kitchen surfaces, equipment, and dishes
- Support proper food storage, labeling, and organization
- Assist with meal portioning and delivery to classrooms
- Follow allergy protocols and dietary restrictions carefully
- Help with receiving and organizing food deliveries
- Support the Chef with special events and school activities
Qualifications
- Experience in a kitchen, childcare, or food service setting preferred but not required
- Basic knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices
- Ability to follow directions and work as part of a team
- Strong attention to detail and organization skills
- Ability to lift up to 40–50 lbs and stand for extended periods
- Dependable, positive, and team-oriented
- A genuine passion for working in an environment with young children
Preferred Backgrounds
- School or daycare kitchen assistant
- Food service or hospitality experience
- Experience in cleaning and sanitation roles
